-
Low budget
-
Mundane settings – studios, parks, cities (easy access/ mysterious areas)
-
Simplistic – conventional, focuses less on the artist and more on the song
Mise en Scene
-
Often has a retro look
-
Main props are typically instruments (shows the artists as being raw and talented)
Bon Iver
Arctic Monkeys
Performance
-
Common to have a performance aspect – focusing on the artist and their talent
It has become popular to have a hybrid video of narrative and performance. This engages the audience more and gives the song a deeper meaning. The narrative usually links in with the lyrics to help tell a story.
Indie artists are commonly seen as having a raw/stripped back image, making it conventional for them to focus more on the promotion of the music than the artist. Meaning that a lot of the time the artist or band aren’t photographed onto their album covers, typically it is an object that relates to one of the songs or and image of scenery.
