As active consumers, we see storytelling throughout a range of products and how when something has a storyline that we feel attached to we are more inclined to purchase that said product.
For this task we had to think of an animal that Zoologist hadn’t already done and think of how we could create a fragrance to then represent and tell the story of that said animal.
I decided to choose a sea turtle as they are one of my favourite animals, I brainstormed a few initial smells that came into mind when I thought about them which were scents like; the beach, salt water, the smell of warmth, the coolness of water and more.
I looked into their lifestyles a bit more and found that their eggs have a very leathery texture and that also if certain eggs get more warmth from the sunlight that others that they are most likely to be male sea turtles. I thought about then creating two separate scents, one with warmer tones for men and another with cooler tones for women.
I created a mood board that consisted of a variety of things such as how I’d maybe want the packaging to feel or the colours that I would associate with certain things and so one
I then wrote a short scent story
the soft glints of sunshine caress the oceans waves as the coral radiates colour across the sea floor. out from the sea grass the turtle emerges, gliding through the waves like silk in your hands.

I really enjoyed this task because I felt as if I was really in the right mindset to be able to create this fragrance, I feel like it’s a challenging thing to ask what an animal might smell like and everyone would have different answers and there isn’t really any right answers so I really enjoyed being able to be a lot more outside the box with this fragrance.
