The Mullet Craze

Lockdown has made us do some crazy things but one of the craziest things I’ve seen across the internet is the mullet coming back into fashion, all thanks to Joe Exotic. For those of you who don’t know what a mullet it, as they liked to say on Hannah Montana it was a “business in the front, party in the back”.

Tiger King hit our screens at the beginning of lockdown and if you haven’t watched it, I suggest you do! Joe Exotic (known as the tiger king) famously rocks a terrible bleached mullet as his signature look, he even admits in the first episode that the cut of it is very bad.

Now the mullet is something I never really expected to see come back into style other than for a joke, but for the last couple of months, social media platforms such as TikTok have been riddled with people attempting to replicate the hairdo in their makeshift kitchen or bathroom barber shop.

As some of you might know, I have a very unhealthy tiktok obsession, so I have scrolled through the mullet hashtag for a ridiculous amount of time that I am not willing to admit. I have seen some of the worst mullets I think I will ever see in my life, but I’ve also seen some amazing mullets that actually made me contemplate hacking away at my own hair, but my housemates swiftly reminded me of my weird shaped head.

I’m curious as to if this is something that’ll still be all the rage once we come out of lockdown and back into our regular routines or if it’s going to be something that we leave in the past and tell people in the future that it was our Britney moments of lockdown.
