Living in a Pandemic

Well who would’ve thought that not even a couple of months into 2020 the world is enduring the global pandemic that is COVID-19 also known as Coronavirus. Since then the U.K has been put on lockdown and I’m currently in lockdown away from home and still and at university. It’s been a strange couple of weeks seeing the streets that used to be full of people daily now empty, for walk down the road and for every shop to be closed. It’s quite eerie if you ask me.
I feel this pandemic has also shown a lot of people’s true colours when it comes to selfishness. Just because you may not feel ill or you’re fit and healthy doesn’t mean that you aren’t going to be affected by Coronavirus, this therefore doesn’t mean that it’s okay for you to go and see 10 of your mates or for you have a party. People’s lives are a risk and it really shows that people don’t really until it happens to them. Please listen to the NHS the trained professional that are putting themselves at risk daily for our safety. They know what they’re talking about. Also why are we panic buying? Do you really need 10 packets of loo roll? 5 bags of pasta or rice? The answer is No. Why do we feel the need as a nation to not think of those who might be vulnerable, those who can only shop once a week due to budget restrictions or transport facilities or the elderly, maybe they need a pack of loo roll or pasta, but they can’t because you’ve purchased all of them.
I can imagine that it’s been a difficult time for those who are away from family, I know that it has been difficult for me to be away from my family during this time and knowing that it might be while until I can see them and hug them properly. But none the less, the gift of modern technology has allowed me to be able to kinda see them every day and to continuously pester my mum on how to work my washing machine that weirdly only has 3 buttons.
It was also quite scary to fall ill during this time too, about 3 days after lockdown was announced I experienced Covid like symptoms for 2 weeks , I followed all the protocol that was needed for those 2 weeks but it was terrifying, thankfully I’m a lot better and my symptoms have cleared up but it was definitely an eye opener.
